A United Methodist is someone who joins in that mission by putting faith and love into action. We believe that God loves all people, and that we share in expressing that love. John Wesley started the Methodist movement in 18th century England. His teachings on practical divinity (living out our faith) and appeals to reason and experience form important aspects of United Methodist practice today.

Becoming a United Methodist begins with a desire to grow as a disciple of Jesus Christ. Being baptized and committing to active participation in a church community are the first steps to becoming a member.
Baptism is the start of your journey as a disciple of Jesus Christ. In baptism, we are initiated into the Christian church and incorporated into the community of God's people, the body of Christ. If you have never been baptized, you will receive the sacrament of baptism before becoming a member. Those previously baptized will reaffirm the Baptismal Covenant as part of their membership vows.
